Kitten stalls traffic on Highway 90

A kitten was responsible for a traffic backup on Highway 49 near St. Charles Avenue earlier this morning.
Gulfport fire officials say it is unclear where the cat came from, but he was in the southbound lane when an SUV stopped to avoid hitting it. That’s when the kitten found its way into the engine compartment.
An off duty Gulfport firefighter stopped to help. The kitten was moving through the hot exhaust system and made it difficult to remove. Eventually, the kitten was freed with the help of bystanders.
The cat appeared to be unharmed.
