King Cake Contest at Ocean Springs Visitors Center
The Ocean Springs Chamber Main Street and Tourism Bureau is hosting its annual King Cake Contest right now.
Bakeries in the city compete for the title of ‘Best King Cake in Ocean Springs’ from January 16th to February 10th.
Locals and tourists are able to savor this tradition by stopping by the Visitors Center, tasting the king cake of the day, and ranking it from 1, not very good, to 5, the best they’ve ever had.
The event is for everyone to stop by and enjoy, but it is especially a sweet way to welcome visitors to Ocean Springs during carnival season. Executive Director Cynthia Sutton said, “On a monthly basis we see hundreds of visitors that come through the Ocean Springs Visitors Center. And when they come down to Ocean Springs, they’ve never head of Mardi Gras or have never even heard of a King Cake. So, this is a cool way to just show a little bit of community love, teach them about some of our festivals, our traditions, here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.”
The Visitors Center is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The bakery providing the king cake changes every three days so be sure to stop by a few times a week to take advantage of this free king cake.
