Kids Floral Design Camp at MSU Coastal Research and Extension Center

Kids ages eight to 12 were given the unique opportunity to learn the basics of floral design in a half-day camp with the help of some highly skilled instructors.

MSU Extension Service Floral Designer Jim Delprince led the camp with assistance from five extension master floral design volunteers.

The floral camp offered educational information and hands-on practice creating floral arrangements.

Flowers for the camp were purchased from local florists throughout the area. Delprince said, “If a young person is introduced to flowers at a younger age, they are more apt to think of that as a gift or a presentation in their adulthood or to buy flowers. Similarly, young people have in a sense a creativity and I found over the past few years of conducting this camp that they do exceptionally well if they are given some instruction and really good quality material. So, that’s what we strive to do every year.”

MSU extension will offer the floral camp next year with the hopes for it to continue to grow.
