Keith Davis not accepting police chief position
Chief of Marine Patrol with the Department of Marine Resource Keith Davis will no longer be accepting the position as police chief with the city of Moss Point.
Mayor Mario King says Keith Davis made his decision known tonight during a special meeting with Moss Point city officials. Davis told aldermen the police chief position just isn’t the right fit for him.
Davis announced he was taking the job during a press conference on February 12th. The police chief spot was left open after Calvin Hutchins stepped down to take his current position as chief of law enforcement for the Pascagoula-Gautier School District.
This would have been Davis’ second time serving as chief of Moss Point police as he served for three years prior to 2014.
Mayor King is in Jackson right now. News 25 spoke with him over the phone. This is what he had to say. “As a city and as a community we have to be self-aware and knowledgeable about some of the decisions and some of the things we do and how our actions and some of the things we do can affect people’s decision to work for us professionally. His statement was ‘I want to be there for Moss Point. I’ll serve any role, but I just don’t feel like Moss Point is right for me as a police chief.’”
Mayor King says there are no hard feelings on Davis’ decision. Now, the City of Moss Point will continue the search for a new police chief.
