Keesler Weather Students Predict Great Weather for Air Show

With some major outdoor events slated for this weekend, most people are hoping the weather is going to cooperate. That’s why the students at Keesler Air Force Base are putting what they have learned into practice.

Students from around the world are trained in the basics of weather forecasting at the weather training school. Many of the students start off with no knowledge of atmospheric science, but over eight months will be given the tools to forecast weather for the military in the field.

Captain Christopher Homan says this training is critical for field operations. He says, "Anytime there’s low clouds, even things like low temperatures could cause issues for aircraft engines. Obviously thunderstorms lightning within five will have impacts on whether or not they can refuel, things like that."

Keesler is hosting an air show this weekend. Gates open at 9 a.m. Saturday and the event is free.
