Keesler informs public about drones

Keesler Air Force Base is trying to educate the public and bring awareness to the safety of using drones.
Today, they held a town hall meeting at the Biloxi Visitors Center to discuss unmanned aircraft systems and their impact near Keesler Air Force Base and its relative airspace. They are asking operators of the drones to become knowledgeable and practice good general operating rules required to fly a drone in the National Airspace System.
If you are wanting to fly a drone, they want you to follow these rules. 403rd Reserve Wing Lt. Colonel Jeffery Ragusa said, “The FA wants everyone to notify the folks that they’re going to be interacting with. So if you’re going to be within a five mile radius of Keesler Air Force Base then we’ve set up an email account that you can send us an email and almost in real time we’re going to find out hey you’re planning on flying your drone in an airspace where we fly as well so let’s make sure we’re both aware of that.”
There is a request form on the Keesler Air Force Base website if you plan to fly a drone in that five mile radius of the base. You can also email them at Keesleruasrequests@us.af.mil.
