Keesler Holds ‘Mammothon’ for Breast Cancer Awareness
At Keesler Air Force Base Friday, the Medical Center held its 3rd Annual Mammothon. The event, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, was for all eligible tri-care beneficiaries.
Members were able to go in for walk-in mammograms, but the Mammothon wasn’t limited to just breast cancer screenings. In addition, the Keesler Medical Center staff held walk-ins for a variety of cancer and health screening services.
Kerry Hudson, Chief Mammographer, says, “The first year we did it, we did 74 patients and found three cancers, and those ladies are still coming back and living and having grandbabies. We’re just so excited and we’re saving lives and that’s our purpose today.”
Members of the Ocean Springs High School cheerleading squad volunteered their time to escort walk-ins around the Medical Center.
