Keesler Air Force Base showcases military working dogs

Keesler Air Force Base showcased the day-to-day duties of the seven military working dogs on their base.

The working dogs are trained for specific jobs, including tracking, explosive detection, patrol, search and rescue, and attack.

All of the military working dogs and their handlers are trained at the 341st Training Squadron located at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

Handlers are responsible for the care and training of a service dogs, supporting missions, and daily law enforcement. SSGT. Ryan M. Wood said, “We go around looking for contraband or unauthorized people on base and just making sure overall that the base is secure. Through the day, we also do a lot of training to make sure our dogs stay at the highest level that they can be to support the mission at Keesler. A good reason that we have these dogs on base is that they provide a level of detection and deterrence that humans just cannot provide.”

When the dogs are finished being military working dogs, they are placed in loving homes across the country.
