Keeping the flu away

According to the Mississippi State Department of Health, more cases of the flu are being reported across the state. If you are a parent you know just how quickly germs can spread through schools.

We are just coming into peak flu season which usually lasts from January to March. H1N1 is the main flu strain circulating right now and it tends to mainly affect children, but others can get sick as well.

The flu has already taken the life of one child in Mississippi.

Popp’s Ferry Elementary School Nurse Ginger Smith tells News 25 teaching your child good habits can help prevent them from spreading illness. “You want to teach them to cover their mouth and their nose when they sneeze and cough. Washing their hands and disinfecting their areas are the main things to help prevent the flu.”

Smith also encourages all parents to keep their children home if they show any signs of the flu and take them to a doctor.
