Keeping BP Money on the Coast
$150 million in BP money will be making its way to the state Legislature in January, but how can we be sure that money gets to the Coast where many feel it should land?
Today, State Senator Chris McDaniel of Jones County announced he will be drafting legislation to prevent BP money from being spent anywhere else in the state other than the lower six counties.
McDaniel’s announcement comes after David Baria, a House Democrat from Bay St. Louis, also said he will file a bill in advance of the 2016 session requiring at least 80 percent of the total amount be returned to South Mississippi, a bill similar to a Florida law already in place.
