Fourteen-year old Vancleave girl facing second degree murder charges

Fourteen-year old Bridgett Leann Forehand of Vancleave will be tried as an adult for second degree murder in the death of 19-year-old Mickell Gordon in Ocean Springs near Gulf Park Estates.

Her first court appearance was this afternoon in Jackson County. Her bail is set at $100,000. Forehand is being represented by a public defender. The defender pleaded for a low bail, explaining that Forehand is suffering from emotional and mental health issues and it would be easier for her to get the help she needs outside of prison.

Judge Mark Watts explained his decision by saying: “I’d hate to see a 14-year-old stay in jail, but it’s a murder charge.”

He also said if Forehand can prove her mental health issues that he will consider lowering her bail.
