Judy Meredith delivers keynote address as part of Black History Month events at Ole Miss
A retired professor and documentary maker used a Black History Month keynote address to celebrate change makers cross the U.S.
Judy Alsobrooks Meredith is the wife of James Meredith, who was the first African-American to attend Ole Miss.
She used the address to talk about change and how society needs to move forward.
Judy Meredith spoke at Ole Miss before the screening of her documentary about her husband, titled ‘Who is James Meredith’ as part of the Black History Month program.
She says the documentary is intended to show James Meredith as an agent of change who proved that just one person can make a difference. “It’s the us versus you that reinforces hatred for each other. It’s the us versus you that keeps America a segregated and classes society, placing restraints on parts of society where good people are left behind with little or no chance of freedom to begin to enjoy the American Dream — or even function as contributing citizens.”
James Meredith, who also was at the keynote address, says it is time to put race behind us and he believes Mississippi can lead the world in that quest.
