Jonathan Mingo’s record game leads #9 Ole Miss to win against Vanderbilt

Throughout the first half of the Ole Miss football season, Head Coach Lane Kiffin has been frustrated at times over some of his team’s lackluster second half performances. That was not the case in the Rebels 52-28 rout of Vanderbilt.

Down 20-10 in the second quarter, Ole Miss came roaring back to life in the final 31 minutes of the game, outscoring the Commodores 42-8 during that stretch.

Quarterback Jaxson Dart lead the way with a career-high 448 yards passing and three touchdowns, two of them to Jonathan Mingo.

The senior wide receiver earning SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors on the back of his nine-catch 247-yard performance, breaking the Ole Miss single game school record set by Elijah Moore in 2020. Coach Kiffin said, “I just really like him as a kid. He’s an awesome leader by example. Never says anything but just works and never complains. He’s been through adversity. I remember the passion he had when the guy came out and tried to practice for Alabama when there was no way he was going to be able to go and still tried, and the tears in his eyes. It’s just special kids. You take a team meeting at every school and say, ‘Who loves football?’ And they’ll all raise their hand. Well, that’s not true. When you really love football, you practice and prepare like this guy does. He’s just awesome to have around.”

Tall task this weekend for the Rebels, who look to win their 14th straight home game against Auburn. Kick off is set for 11 a.m. Saturday.
