Join your local library to celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month
Libraries in Hancock, Harrison, and Jackson counties are celebrating Library Card Sign-Up Month.
Signing up for a library card is an easy way to support your local library and open your world up to multiple free resources such as books, computer, and movies.
At Orange Grove Public Library, you can even check out from their ‘library of things.’ All you need to do is pass over your ID with a valid address within the library’s jurisdiction, fill out a short form, and you’ll be handed a bright and shiny card.
Many libraries are facing budget cuts, but hoping for an influx of residents signing up to change their direction. Orange Grove Library Clerk Richard Kalnins said, “We open possibilities to people into other worlds they might not have experienced, through books, through movies, through audio books. The modern 21st century library is more than just a place to borrow materials, it’s a meeting hub, it’s a community center. If the public, the tax-paying public, were to let their supervisors and city-council people know ‘Yeah, I think the library is important, and you guys need to fund it as fully as you can.’ I think it’s a win-win for everybody. For the library, and the people who use the library.”
Jackson-George Regional Libraries have also extended their hours to 6:30 to make the library more accessible.
So, get out this month and get a library card.
