John Harrison Doucet comes home
John Harrison Doucet is back home with his family in Gulfport. News 25’s Hank Davis has the story.
It’s a reunion that’s been about six months in the making and family and friends have eagerly awaited the homecoming of John Harrison Doucet, a Gulfport native that’s been receiving treatment in Georgia since last September when he was nearly killed by an electric shock.
Having John back home means the world to his family. John’s father, Tommy Doucet, said, “It’s what he was looking for, he wanted to come home. It’s the greatest thing you can ask for and it just feels wonderful. It’s what we’ve been looking for.”
After such a long, hard journey to make his way back to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, it was truly incredible to see John Harrison make his way off of that plane and smile. It’s a smile his family and friends have been longing to see. Ruthie McMullen, John’s mother, said, “Thank you for a lot of prayer and the love of our family and friends from all over. It’s not just Gulfport, it’s from all over. We’re home and he’s a miracle and this is where we need to be.”
Also there to welcome John home was the man who saved his life on that grim day last September. Gulfport Firefighter Andrew Dedeaux said, “Man, that dude is strong. I’ll tell you that. You can probably have that accident 1000 times with 1000 different people and I don’t think any of them would survive. I mean, it was that bad so to see him in the shape he is in right now, it’s pretty incredible and just thank God that he’s here. It’s pretty awesome.”
John Harrison will return to Georgia to be fitted for prosthetics to replace his lost limbs, but for now his family can begin their return to normalcy. John’s brother, Dawson Doucet, said, “I honestly think his spirits, I don’t know how much higher they could go or how much positive-er they can go from where they are because he’s just so ready to get back. To me it feels like everything is going to go back to normal hopefully.”
The family already has their first order of business figured out. “He wants to get on the boat.” “Hopefully get out on the boat.” “First thing he wants to do is get out on a boat.”
