Jobless claims below pre-pandemic levels
The number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits remains at historically low levels.
There were 180,000 new jobless claims for the week ending April 23rd, according to labor department statistics. That’s down 5,000 compared to the previous week.
Weekly jobless claims have been consistently below pre-pandemic levels for most of the year.
However, not all the economic news is good. This week, the commerce department announced the U.S. economy shrank in the last quarter for the first time since the pandemic.
