Jazz Concert in Ocean Springs Cancelled Due to HB 1523
More fallout over House Bill 1523 as comedian Tracy Morgan cancels his performance in Tunica and Belinda Carlisle writes her own heated opinion of the bill to Governor Bryant. News 25 has learned the 2016 Jazz Tour will no longer be making a stop in Ocean Springs.
The Marriot and Coca-Cola are major sponsors of the tour which stops in places like New Orleans and Baton Rouge. With just a week out, they have decided they won’t sponsor the show in Ocean Springs because of House Bill 1523 which they believe discriminates against the LGBTQ community.
Ocean Springs Mayor Connie Moran continues to adamantly speak out against the law. “I think my board in general is, of course, also disappointed. I don’t think they’re ready to step up to a resolution as Biloxi did. However, I believe they would support my giving a statement. Two years ago, in fact, the board did pass a resolution saying that Ocean Springs does not discriminate and we are open to everyone and our position has not changed.”
The mayor also took to Facebook to say this: “Those who continue to believe this whole thing will blow over and that we, especially here in Ocean Springs, will never see any impact from this, well, get your head out of the sand.”
