Jay Ladner returning to Southern Miss basketball
The Southern Miss men’s basketball program has gone through its fair share of struggles in recent years, but the decision coming down Saturday to retain Head Coach Jay Ladner for the upcoming season.
Ladner just wrapping up his third season in Hattiesburg, in which USM went 7-26, culminating with his 100th career win in the first round of the Conference USA Tournament, ending what was previously a 14-game losing streak.
But context is important, considering the Black and Gold went most of the year without injured starting point guard Tae Hardy.
Overall, the Golden Eagles 24-65 the last three seasons, but again context, the pandemic starting just as his first full season was ending.
A well-deserved opportunity for Ladner who was on that 1987 NIT championship team.
