Jay Hopson Signs 25 to Southern Miss

When National Signing Day rolled around last year, Jay Hopson had been head coach of the Golden Eagles for three days. At that time, he was just trying to retain what Todd Monken had already hauled in, but this time USM’s recruiting class had his fingerprints all over it.
Of the 25 scholarship players USM brought in, six of them hail from the Gulf Coast. Originally from Long Beach, JCJC’s Trevor Terry is already on campus. George County’s Tyler Jack is heading over from PRCC.
According to Rivals, the Golden Eagles clock in with the second best class in CUSA, also the second most three star recruits in the league.
Hopson was in D’Iberville to brag on his new blue collar guys. “The great thing about this time is it’s a lot of three-star guys, that in my opinion are four and five-star guys. But that’s what we want, we want guys with a chip on their shoulder. That’s who we are, that’s what we want. And so at the end of the day I think all of these guys are Southern Miss guys, and in my opinion they’re six-stars because they’re going to be tough and they’re going to have the edge. So again, this Gulf Coast area group I’m fired up about. I always say we are The University of Southern Mississippi, so it’s good to have South Mississippi boys playing for us.”
Coach Hopson says D’Iberville is a fun stop at the end of the day to hoop, holler, and celebrate Southern Miss football.
