January marks Human Trafficking Prevention Month

January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month and organizations such as Advocates for Freedom are trying to spread awareness.

According to Advocates for Freedom, there are 29 million human slaves today. The number of children prostituted each year is more than 300,000. The average age of children forced into sex trafficking is 12-years-old.

To help raise funds for the organization and to bring more awareness to trafficking, the team at Advocates for Freedom will host their second annual Twilight Evening in Blue fundraiser at Gulf Hills Country Club in April.

The organization will host a golf tournament on March 19th as well.  Advocates for Freedom CEO and Founder Susie Harvill said, “Sometimes it’s the people that you least expect, and so this is why we really need to have a conversation and talk about what is human trafficking. What can we do about it? If we see something, say something.”

To participate in the golf tournament or to sponsor the event call 228-229-2754.
