Jambalaya Fundraiser held in Waveland for corrections officer Shari Rouse

A jambalaya fundraiser for the husband and daughter of Shari Rouse was held in Waveland on Wednesday

Rouse was a Hancock County corrections officer who died from a hit and run on March 15th.

The fundraiser saw lines of community members showing out to support the rouse family. Jambalaya plates were sold for $15 each in addition to t-shirts, cookbooks and a raffle, where winners could win bottles of wine, gulf coast items, or gift cards to Texas Roadhouse. Brandon Nicaise, owner and creator of Kajun Kick, who helped put on the fundraiser, had this to say.

“This fundraiser has been very successful; I knew when I put it together in Hancock County they were gonna come out. This community stands behind every benefit 100%. You make it, they’ll come.”

Additionally, the fundraiser allowed community members to learn about the positive impact rouse left on many during her life.

“She was bright, very outgoing, she’s – I don’t know. When I see colorful things, I think of Shari. Shari is just one of those – it didn’t matter what anybody did, Shari could make somebody happy.”

All funds from today’s fundraiser will go to rouse’s husband Austin — and daughter Carolyne.
