Jackson Elementary closing for 2018-2019 school year

The doors of Jackson Elementary in Pascagoula will be closing for the upcoming school year.

The school board agreed the school should close for the 2018 through 2019 school year because of flooding and drainage issues on the campus.

Pascagoula-Gautier School District Superintendent Wayne Rodolfich told News 25 that students and teachers will be reassigned to Arlington Elementary, Cherokee Elementary, and Eastlawn Elementary while the school district works to figure out a solution to this issue. “We have to interface not only with our engineering firm, but with the engineers of the City of Pascagoula because they may have to increase their capacity and also the Jackson County Utility Authority will have to increase their capacity for what we can put into that system. It’s a long process that has to take place in order for this to happen, but in order to correct it to the satisfication of everyone to make sure the campus drains this is what has to be done.”

The school board will come together again at the end of the year to evaluate the progress and see if the school is ready to reopen.
