Jackson County Supervisors Considering Flag Removal
The Jackson County Board of Supervisors will consider removing the Mississippi state flag from county buildings. This comes after hearing from NAACP leaders at this morning’s meeting.
Jackson County NAACP President Curley Clark asked supervisors to consider removing the flag, saying it does not represent the diverse community in Mississippi. He wants Jackson County to be the progressive voice in South Mississippi.
Clark tells News 25 he felt today was a good time to bring up the issue because it is the first day of Black History Month. “I thought it was fitting to take some type of proactive effort to try and make sure that African Americans and everyone else realizes the importance of us coming together as one and try to do something that’s going to unify us as a nation.”
The supervisors are set to vote on the issue at their March 7th meeting .
