Jackson County State of the County Address
More than $26 million is headed to Jackson County to improve infrastructure. Jackson County Board of Supervisors President Ken Taylor detailed the growth and improvements at the State of the County Address.
Keeping debt low and business booming, the economy in Jackson County continues to see growth from small businesses to the largest employer in the state of Mississippi. Huntington Ingalls is reaffirming their business in the county as they begin construction on their ‘shipyard of the future.’ “At least one thousand new jobs not next month, but within the next year or so when the production of those ships reaches that point that they’re brought over to the east back for work,” said Taylor.
Taylor also touched on some improvements that will be done on the county’s roadways and sidewalks, aimed at keeping residents happy with their home. “If someone down the road has a better environment that’s where they’ll go, so to me it all wraps up into quality of life.”
While the county has a budget over $26 million for road improvements, they were awarded a separate grant to improve the Roy Cumbest and Parker Lane bridges. “It’s a critical artery in travel in Jackson County, crossing the river, and it needs to be fixed.”
Economic growth and county improvements aside, Taylor echoed his main wish for the county in 2019 and beyond. “I would love to see more people becoming residents as opposed to going to work here then going home outside of the county and that says that we need to improve even more on our quality of life.”
