Jackson County Sheriff’s Dept. providing additional police protection for Moss Point

MOSS POINT, Miss. (WXXV)- The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department will provide additional police protection for the city of Moss Point.

This follows a wave of officer resignations with the city’s police department, according to our media partner the Sun Herald.

Moss Point Mayor Billy Knight said on Monday night at a special called meeting with the board of alderman that the city’s open police chief position will also soon be advertised.

This follows Chief Brandon Ashley’s abrupt departure on Friday, with multiple other officers following him out the door.

The mayor did inform the board that at least three individuals have expressed interest in serving in the interim position.

Once an interim chief is appointed, Mayor Knight says that person will meet with Sheriff John Ledbetter to determine the temporary needs of the city so that they are covered.
