Jackson County School District needs funds for repairs

Leaders of the Jackson County School District are trying to figure out how to pay for repairs on buildings.

Two months ago, local voters rejected borrowing $67 million for projects in the Jackson County School District.

Superintendent John Strycker says about $40 million is needed for roofing, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical repairs. He says those are ‘nothing exciting,’ but are still necessary.

Without the power to borrow, the school district will have to set aside cash from annual budgets. It has been spending about $2 million a year.

Strycker says accumulating money to equal the bond amount will take years.
