Jackson County School District bond vote fails

Jackson County School District residents took to the polls today for a special election regarding a facility bond.

The bond was ultimately struck down.

Over 5,000 residents cast their ballots Tuesday evening with over 75 percent of votes against the 20 term $67 million bond.

One voter told News 25 she thought the bond focused too much on extracurricular activities and not enough on academics.

The school district says it has been evaluating needs at their three attendance centers since 2015 in order to put together this bond.

Improvements would have included numerous facility upgrades at the Jackson County School District schools from performing arts centers to classroom additions and enhancements in the athletic departments.

The Jackson County School Board president says it is not a matter of ‘if’ the board proposes another bond, it’s a matter of ‘when.’
