JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- The Jackson County Road Department has announced the indefinite closure of the Roy Cumbest Bridge.

The closure begins on Thursday, June 4 at noon. The closure is due to significant roadway erosion on the west side of the bridge caused by recent rainfall.

Officials say the closure is to ensure public safety and allow county officials the ability to address the conditions in the area.

The bridge is expected to remain closed indefinitely while conditions are evaluated and repairs are planned.

Drivers are asked to make alternate travel arrangements and to monitor Jackson County’s official channels for future updates regarding the closure and repair efforts.
