Jackson County man sentenced to 18 years for aggravated assault

A Moss Point man was convicted and sentenced for aggravated assault in Jackson County on Friday.

Thirty-three year Alvin Ballard was sentenced to 20 years with 18 to serve in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

On March 29th, 2021 Gautier police officers arrived to a residence on Prince George Drive in reference to an assault with a weapon.

Upon arrival, officers found three females suffering from cuts to the head. The victims told officers about how Ballard, who was in a relationship with one of the victims, entered the house uninvited and struck all three women in the head with a firearm.

Ballard shot into the ceiling before fleeing the scene. Ballard was arrested a couple of weeks later by the US Marshals Service.

While awaiting trial, Ballard absconded again and was recently arrested on a bench warrant issued by the Court.

During his guilty plea, Ballard admitted his guilt and told the Court that he had been drinking heavily before the assault.

Upon his release Ballard will serve the remainder of years on reporting post-release supervision.
