Jackson County man convicted of embezzlement by trust as life habitual offender
JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- A Jackson County jury convicted a man on Monday of embezzlement by trust.
Based on his criminal history, 42-year-old Robert Louis Sorel was prosecuted under Mississippi’s life habitual statute.
The sentence stems from an incident in April 2023. Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a home in Vancleave in response to a missing vehicle. Once on scene, deputies learned that Sorel had borrowed the truck for a trip four days prior to the call and had not yet returned.
Ten days after borrowing the vehicle, Sorel was arrested after leading officials on a chase in Tennessee. He was charged by Tennessee officials with driving under the influence and evading arrest.
Sorel was sentenced to life in custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections without the possibility of parole.
