Jackson County inmate suicide prompts policy review

Two inmates at the Jackson County Jail have committed suicide in the past few weeks.

On December 28th, one male inmate committed suicide and then another male inmate committed suicide on Saturday, January 5th. Authorities say both inmates died by hanging themselves with bed sheets. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says these two incidents are completely unrelated.

Officials will be reviewing their policies and procedures due to these incidents. Sheriff Mike Ezell said, “I will say that we are going in a complete review of all of our policies, procedures, and our entire way that we do things out there because if there is a way we can prevent something like this from happening again. We certainly want to do that.”

The Jackson County Jail has a medical staff onsite for inmates to speak with if they are having a mental health crisis.
