Jackson County Fire Vancleave Station receives updates

The Jackson County Fire Vancleave Station has finally unveiled their new updated station.

The new and improved station has updated living quarter space for firemen, updated living food and kitchen, and exterior façade improvements.

They were also able to add new additions to the facility to better store what they have and to continue to grow as a station.

A new 3,600 square foot metal building was added to store three more trucks, as well as a new generator to keep the fire department running at all times.

This was funded in part by the Mississippi Legislature, which Senator Jeremy England spearheaded, and Jackson County Board of Supervisors.

Firefighters live in these quarters and the county felt they deserved to be comfortable. Director of Emergency Services Earl Etheridge said, “When you’re in a place for 24 hours, obviously this is basically – every three days, this is your home. And this is where you’re living out of. So, to have a more comfortable and clean environment to work out of, definitely has an impact on how you do work.”

Senator England said, “Safety and fire safety is one of the tenants that I think government needs to look out for. We always like to look out for our first responders. So, when they told me we had a fire department that was in need down here, in Vancleave, that was going to help the community, going to make Vancleave a safer place. I said, yeah, that sounds exactly like something I’d like to help.”

The project cost $1.2 million to complete.
