Jackson County Fair is Back – October 19th-26th

Jackson County’s “best week of the year” returns with the County Fair on Oct. 19th-26th. The Fair is eight straight days of spinning rides, stockyard exhibits, live entertainment, and seafood gumbo!

“The Fair is Jackson County’s largest agricultural and entertainment event of the year,” Board of Supervisors President Troy Ross explained. “Our Fair brings people from across the entire Coast together for one week of entertainment, food, and October traditions. It is the best week of the year.”

The process of transforming the outdoor pavilion into livestock barn is already in progress. County’s Maintenance Department has brought in truckloads of dirt and dozens of animal stalls. The barn area is home to livestock displays and 4H competitions and is one of the most visited spots at the fair each year.

Live entertainment ranging from music and dance groups to a talent show and dog show will be provided on the indoor Civic Center stage, in the Fair Hall just north of the Civic Center, and at the Barn.

Amusement park rides have already started arriving to fill the fairgrounds with attractions for thrill seekers or “kiddie” riders. Rides will be open at 4 p.m. from Oct. 19th – Oct. 23rd and earlier throughout the weekend.

“You know fall has truly arrived when the Ferris Wheel starts going up,” Eddie Russell, Fair Association said.

The food is another ingredient to the Fair’s on-going success! The food booth pavilion, located at the northwest corner of the fairgrounds, houses 10 individual food booths and room for hundreds to dine comfortably under a single covered facility no matter what the weather is like.

The food booths will be hosted this year by: Caswell Springs United Methodist Church, Faith in the Word Ministries, Old Faith Bible Study, Liberty Assembly of God Church, Parkway Baptist Church, Safe Harbor United Methodist Church, St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Solomon Temple Zion Church, Pascagoula Police Benefit Fund, and Asbury Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church.

The Old Settler’s Day program has been cancelled this year but Old Settlers will be given free lunch ticket. Look for the Old Settler’s registration tent at the west end of Arts Building. Registration is from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.
