Jackson County deputy cleared in 2022 shooting in Vancleave
A Jackson County Sheriffs deputy involved in an officer-involved shooting in October of last year has been cleared by MBI and the Attorney General.
A statement from the AG’s office said it had completed its review of the October 28, 2022 incident and found that use of force was justified.
The incident happened about 5 p.m. when deputies responded to a call of shots fired at a home on Brad-AI Drive in Vancleave. When they arrived, an armed man pointed a gun at deputies, who returned fire.
The man, identified as 49-year-old Richard Quave Jr., died at the scene. Jackson County Corner Bruce Lynd Jr. said Quave had been shot more than once.
Mississippi Bureau of Investigation handled the case, as it does all officer-involved shootings in the state.
