Jackson County Deputies Searching for Home Invasion Suspect
Jackson County deputies are looking for a man they say was armed with a pick ax and broke into the home of a Vancleave couple around 1:30 this morning. The homeowners called for help after they were awakened by two large booming noises. The homeowner told the dispatcher a shirtless white man broke into the back door. The male homeowner confronted the man in the living room. The suspect then took the owner’s truck keys and his cell phone and went out the back door.
The homeowner got a gun and went outside to find the suspect sitting in the driver’s seat of the owner’s truck. When the owner pointed the gun at the suspect, he jumped out of the truck and ran off, going south on Wire Road.
The suspect left his own truck — a 1999 gold Chevrolet Silverado in the driveway. Investigators saw a traffic ticket inside the truck and identified the suspect as 36 year old Anthony Lee Smith, Sr.
Investigators think Smith may still be in the area. Anyone seeing a suspicious person should call 911 or 228-769-3065
