Jackson County Celebrates Top Spellers in Scripps National Spelling Bee

Jackson County, MS — December 10, 2024 — The stage was electric with excitement as the brightest young spellers of Jackson County competed in the annual Scripps National Spelling Bee regional competition.

After hours of intense competition, three remarkable students emerged as the county’s champions:

  • 1st Place- Addilynn S. Singing River Academy, Grade 5
  • 2nd Place- Isabella Chavarra, Colmer Middle School, Grade 8
  • 3rd Place- Thomas Frederic, Resurrection Catholic School, Grade 4

These students showcased their extraordinary spelling skills, poise under pressure, and dedication to academic excellence. The event, held at Singing River Academy, brought together participants from across the county to celebrate the power of language and learning.

“We are so proud of all the students who competed in this year’s Spelling Bee. Their hard work and passion for learning truly inspire us all,” said Erica D. Wilson, Scripps Spelling Bee Jackson County Coordinator. “Congratulations to our winners for their outstanding achievements and best wishes as they prepare for the regional qualifier competition in February.”
