Jackson County Animal Shelter holds ‘All Creatures Big and Small’ adoption drive

The Jackson County Animal Shelter held its annual ‘All Creatures Big and Small’ donation drive in Ocean Springs Saturday.

By the end of the day, volunteers collected this truck load of pet supplies including dog and cat food, towels and blankets, flea medications, and cleaning supplies.

Additionally, Volunteer Marie Garbin said they received $850 in cash donations and three dogs were adopted from the event.

Garbin said while many people are unable to care for an animal, even a small donation can provide a dog with warmth for the winter. “We work on filling up the shelter so that for the holidays, when it gets really tough for the people, they’ve got a lot of dog food. We’ve got all kinds of bleaches and washes and towels, so much outpouring from the community, which is amazing. It fills my heart up every year to see it happen.”

The event was held in honor of Sophia Myers, an Ocean Springs girl who died of terminal illness in 2017.

As the years pass, Sophia’s legacy still makes an impact on cats and dogs across the Coast.
