Jackson Co. Deputy Sheriff Fired for Racial Remarks on Xbox Live Chat
Jackson County Sheriff, Mike Ezell, has fired a Deputy Sheriff after learning the officer made threatening remarks and racial slurs in an audio recording during an Xbox Live gaming session.
Ezell identified the deputy as Michael Slater, a patrol officer employed by the Sheriff’s Office for three years. In a copy of the audio provided to our media partner, The Sun Herald, Slater can be heard identifying himself as a law enforcement officer and gave his name and badge number. Ezell says he was made aware of the video Wednesday.
Ezell says, “The officer was terminated immediately and this conduct is not tolerated at the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, nor do we conduct ourselves like this. This is a professional organization and we’re working hard to get to professional excellence.”
