Investing in South Mississippi: Community Center of Hope hometown endowment

The Salvation Army is taking another step in providing and securing the futures of South Mississippi families in need.

This new phase of the program aims to keep a never-ending flow of income for the people, services, and operations of the Community Center for Hope.

It’s just been over a month since the Salvation Army and community leaders broke ground on a long-anticipated project: the Community Center of Hope.

Slated to be complete by this time next year, eight apartments will be available for local families in need at the Community Center of Hope. This program is designed to move families into their own independent housing situation within 30 to 90 days with wrap around services that will support them from the moment they enter the doors.

Vetted by the Open Doors Homeless Coalition, these families are ready and willing to move their lives forward. Mississippi Gulf Coast Salvation Army Area Commander Major Bradley Caldwell said, “It’s a yearlong construction project, but we’re already starting to raise the funds to support the programs that will take place there for the coming future. The Salvation Army Hometown Endowment Campaign has kicked off.  We’re trying to raise a $1-million endowment, the interest of which will support the community programs in the years to come.”

Mississippi Gulf Coast Salvation Army Area Commander Major Anita Caldwell said, “This endowment is a key step forward. We’re also very excited that Community Bank, as a community partner, has given us our first $25,000 to help us build that endowment, so we’re on our way.”

And you can help, too. “They need to write Hometown Endowment on their check when they submit it, and then we will properly process that to our Divisional Headquarters to be put into the account that’s been established for this endowment.”
