Investigation into “Biloxi bones” Continues…

And an update on the bones discovered by city workers while working on an infrastructure project. You may remember, as we reported back in April of 2018, crews found human bones five feet below the ground, next to a water line near the Biloxi Cemetery, prompting their removal and a notification to the Mississippi Department of Archives and History.

On Wednesday, federal environmental and historic preservation authorities, engineers and contractors met at the discovery site and 10 other potential sites, but it’s still unknown if they are in fact gravesites.

While the investigation is ongoing, a plan is in the works to bore under the burial site so the $25 million project to install new water, sewer and drainage lines on eight miles of roads from Hopkins Boulevard to Seashore Methodist can resume. City officials say it could likely be sometime next year before the plan can move forward.
