Investigation about to wrap on gun at Gulfport Central Middle School

The investigation into students at Gulfport Central Middle School who were suspended over having a gun on campus is about to wrap up.

Superintendent Glen East tells News 25 the individual students involved are being disciplined on a case-by-case basis.

The school district is limited on information it can provide about students and the case itself, but East assures us the investigation into the students’ conduct will conclude this week.

East stresses students and teachers share some responsibility in keeping school hallways safe, in other words, if you see something, say something.

Students reported the gun to school officials, which helped school resource officers quickly diffuse the situation. “So, it’s all a matter of participation of individual students in what happens in this case, or any case in the school district. I think I can assure you that standing around, seeing something, and not participating, is not going to get you in trouble. Until—and we’re going to ask you point-blank – why didn’t you tell us? Because in the student code of conduct, it says you’re responsible for helping us with the safety of the school.”

News 25 will have more updates on this story as more information comes out.
