Introducing our WXXV Student Athlete of the Week, West Harrison’s Sean Fairley!

This week we’re highlighting a dual sport athlete who excels in both football and track and field and his talents have even landed him recognition on a national stage. We’ve followed his journey since he was a freshman and it’s hard to believe he’ll be graduating in May. Introducing our WXXV Student Athlete of the Week, West Harrison’s Sean Fairley!

The West Harrison football team had their best season to date this past fall, and a lot of the credit goes to their running back room. One of the three threats was the human bowling ball that is senior Sean Fairley who rushed over 1,000 yards, but did you know he’s equally as good if not better when it comes to track and field, specifically in discus and shot put.

From ten years old to now 18 years old, Sean has been training with his dad through his elite group called Fairley’s Track Club. Fairley has been turning heads when he enters the throwing circle for years, holding the Mississippi discus records every year he’s been in high school and winning state both his sophomore and junior years. Throughout his career, the sport has taught him the importance of preparation and how to give something your all.

His dedication is evident in every meet he attends, both on the state and national level. Not only is he a two-time State Champion, he’s a two-time Addidas Nationals All-American, three-time Junior Olympic All-American and a Milesplit All-American. In addition to all that, two weeks ago he broke the Mississippi state record for boys and ranked first in the nation with his throw of 196-1″.

All of these accomplishments and more have led Fairley to getting several opportunities to compete at the next level. Exactly one week ago, he chose to take his talents to the University of Southern Mississippi! No need to rush to the Division I level just yet though, as Sean has goals to throw 200 feet to break his own record and earn one final state championship his senior year. We have no doubt that he’ll acomplish both of those goals and every goal he sets after that. Get to know Sean Fairley in the video above!
