Introducing our WXXV Student Athlete of the Week, Vancleave’s Savannah Hoak!
Not only is it a big day for the coast, but a big day for WXXV as we feature our very first girl flag football player. Introducing our WXXV Student Athlete of the Week, Vancleave’s Savannah Hoak!
“I have volleyball, soccer, and cross country for the school, and then out of school is travel volleyball. I don’t really know how. It’s a lot of work and it’s tiring, but it’s all worth it because I’m playing all the sports that I love,” said the Freshman, Savannah Hoak.
If you’re already struggling to keep up with the schedule of freshman Savannah Hoak, just wait until you hear this. On top of playing three sports for the blue and white, Hoak is adding her name to the history books becoming one of the first girls to ever play flag football at Vancleave high school.
“I feel like it would be super fun,” said Hoak. “I used to watch my brother play flag football and I was like it’s confusing, but it’s something new that no one’s really done ever and I think it would be awesome to try it out for the first time and I do like it a lot. I feel like it really can and will give females confidence to try new things out and experience it.”
After asking Hoak how she does it all and does it all well, she said with a big smile that she’s just having fun.
“Just having fun and having fun with your teammates and doing good knowing that, ‘Wow! I’ve come this far and am playing Varsity.’ It’s all crazy to me as a freshman, too. It just means a lot because I’ve worked so hard to get to where I am and all this hard work is paying off,” said Hoak.
Being on five different teams and playing on three varsity squads as a freshman is impressive to say the least and it all makes sense because Hoak is determined to chase her dreams.
“I really want to do college volleyball or college soccer because I want to play professional soccer.”
What an exciting next few years it will be watching Savannah grow as a Bulldog!
