Introducing our WXXV Student Athlete of the Week, St. Stanislaus Basketball’s Max Baria!
The first half of high school basketball season is almost in the books and it’s time to highlight one of the best teams on the coast and one of the best players in the state of Mississippi. Introducing our WXXV Student Athlete of the Week, St. Stanislaus basketball’s Max Baria!
For the first time in a long time, the St. Stanislaus Rock-A-Chaws have begun the year perfect with an 11-0 record. Basketball is definitely a team sport and a group effort, but making headlines recently is their senior strong forward and center, Max Baria. In his past two games, Baria had 21 points, 19 rebounds and 12 blocks. During his senior season this far, he averages 15 points per game, 9 rebounds per game and four blocks per game. He was also recently named a Dandy Dozen by the Clarion Ledger. He’s only the third member of the Rock-A-Chaw program to earn the honor.
Baria has played basketball since he was four years old, and he believes his career took off the summer between his sophomore and junior year as he played AAU basketball with Blessed Basketball Select. He’s grown tremendously in the past two years, earning five scholarships at the Junior College level.
We look forward to covering the Rock-A-Chaws the rest of the season and can’t wait to cheer on Baria at the collegiate level!
