Introducing our WXXV Student Athlete of the Week, St. Patrick’s Gage Anderson!

In every classification, it’s come down to the top two soccer teams in the state as they’ll compete for this gold ball up north later this week. One team has worked extremely hard to punch their ticket to the big game, and one defender is a huge piece of that Fighting Irish puzzle. Get to know our WXXV Student Athlete of the Week, St. Patrick’s Gage Anderson!

The St.Patrick Boys soccer team has been one win away from playing in the State Championship game three times in the past five years, and they earned it by playing 100 minutes in an 3-1 overtime win over PCS. Senior Gage Anderson may not be in the spotlight often for the Irish, but he helps make a lot of the magic happen. As a defender, he’s a vocal leader when it comes to timing and direction and he specializes in setting up his teammates for success.

Finally getting past the South State mark is a full circle moment for Anderson as the sport of soccer has taught him that hard work truly pays off. Earlier this year, Anderson signed to continue his career at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. He’s ready to join the Bulldogs after being committed for  a long time, but first he’s got unfinished business to take care of with his Fighting Irish brothers.

Anderson and the Irish will have a chance to hoist the gold ball for the first time in almost 10 years as they face St. Andrews at Ridgeland high school with a 7pm start. We’ll be on site and will provide full game highlights on WXXV!
