Introducing our WXXV Student Athlete of the Week, East Central Soccer’s Lucy Myrick!
It’s officially prime time on the pitch as round one of soccer playoffs are complete for classes 7A through 5A and round two for Class I and 4A. One local striker not only leads her region in goals, but the entire class in assists, and the craziest part about it all is she’s only a freshman. Get to know our WXXV Student Athelte of the Week, East Central’s Lucy Myrick!
For years, the East Central girls soccer team has been known to have a strong run in the playoffs, and it looks like that definitely won’t be changing this year. They won the region with a 9-1 record and dominated North Pike in the first round of playoffs with a 9-0 final score. Freshman striker Lucy Myrick says their bond is what makes their team so strong as well as the several goal scorers on their team.
She wasn’t joking when she said they all score goals. Five different Lady Hornets scored in their game on Monday, with Myrick leading the way with a hat trick, her 4th time this season to score at least three goals. She not only leads her team in goals, but the whole region with 23 goals
As just a ninth grader, Myrick possesses a whole lot of maturity and poise when on the pitch. She finds just as much joy in helping others score than herself, which is why she leads the entire class 5A with 15 assists.
Myrick doesn’t take the opporunity the lead the Hornets lightly, and she thankful for the future she has in store with East Central soccer, but as for the future of the season, there’s only one thing on their minds. They want a State Championship!
The next steps towards hoisting that goal ball takes place on their own turf Friday night at East Central where they’ll host South Jones at 5:00. Best of luck to Myrick and the rest of the Lady Hornets!
