Introducing our WXXV Student Athlete of the Week, Biloxi Soccer’s Avery Lofton!

The Lady Indian soccer team is starting the year on fire remaining undefeated through six games and outscoring their opponents 29 to 7. In the sport of soccer, all 11 girls truly have to be on the same page, and Senior Captain Avery Lofton believes that’s why her team has been so successful.

Teamwork truly does make the team work, but it definitely does help when you have a girl like Lofton up top. During her Indian career, the forward has 29 career goals and 40 career assists with her most last year with 16 goals and 18 assists. She’s led the red and black in both categories the past two seasons, and already has 8 goals and 9 assists just this year. She’s basically a goal keeper’s worst nightmare.

The forward loves assisting just as much as she enjoys scoring and she does a lot of both for both teams she plays on. Lofton balances the extremely busy life of year round soccer playing for the Lady Indians and Mississippi Rush united. She truly lives on the pitch and she says the most important quality an athlete should possess is work ethic. She went on to say work ethic and competition has been ingrained in her since birth due to growing up in an athletic family and being the youngest of four.

With a competitive nature like Lofton’s, you know nothing was going to stop her from chasing her dreams. Once her time at Biloxi comes to an end, she’ll be continuing her soccer career at Holmes Community College. We cannot wait to watch her thrive as long as a ball is at her feet, but we’re confident she’ll make a great sports journalist too!
