Interstate construction on Jackson County
If you travel through Jackson County regularly, you can expect slower traffic along I-10 over the next month.
From now on, Sunday through Thursday, I-10 will move from three lanes down to one lane as crews begin paving work. East and westbound traffic will go down to one lane at 7 p.m. and reopen to three lanes at 5 a.m.
The closure plays a part in MDOT’s plan to eventually widen the interstate. This affects the stretch of road between mile marker 50 and mile marker 54. Jackson County resident Summer Tanner said, “It will slow up traffic a little bit, but I think the benefits kind of outweigh the bad parts of it. It’s only four days. I think everyone can kind of go around if they need to, avoid it if they can.”
To avoid congestion, highway patrol is encouraging all drivers to use back roads and alternate routes.
