Instagram to roll out age verification for users to sign up for app
You will soon have to verify your age before creating an Instagram account.
The social media platform will now require all users to provide their date of births before making a new account.
In the past users were asked if they were ages 13 or older but was never required to provide a particular birthday when making an account.
Instagram says the data will be used to encourage younger individuals to opt-in to particular privacy settings as well as advertisements and information for minors to stay safe while using the app.
This move comes as Instagram has faced heat in the past for not protecting minors from inappropriate messages and ads.
