Injured Bay St. Louis firefighter presented with $11,000 check

Today a Bay St. Louis firefighter was awarded with a check to help him recover from a motorcycle accident.

Bay St. Louis firefighter Michael Guitreau was traveling on his motorcycle on his way to work when he collided with another vehicle back in April. Since the accident, fellow firefighters and the community have helped raise money for his medical bills.

Tonight, the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club presented him with an $11,000 check at the fire station in Bay St. Louis. Robert ONeal with Blue Nights Motorcycle Club said, “All of us first responders, we go out there every day and put ourselves on the line for everybody else. When something happens to us, it’s nice for somebody else to step in and give us a hand when we need it.”

“The support and prayer, text messages and calls, that goes a long way. That lifts someone’s spirits up so high. This mentally will take a person down,” said Guitreau.

Guitreau is currently working towards recovering from the accident that left him with two broken legs, a ruptured spleen, and a fractured pelvic bone.
